Celestial Orders
The Celestial Orders encompass Angels and Archangels: spiritual beings whose enduring form is shaped through willing communion, divine investiture, and service rather than through independent Godhood. Celestial power may become immense, but even the greatest Archangel remains distinct from a God.
Celestial beings occupy one of the closest relationships between mortal souls and the Divine Powers without erasing the distinction between them. An Angel is not a fragment of a God, nor does sufficient celestial power eventually turn an Angel into a deity. Celestial existence is sustained through relationship: willing communion, divine investiture, purpose, and bonds capable of continuing beyond mortal life.
Some Celestials may once have lived mortal lives. Death does not require such a soul to lose everything it was in order to serve within the spiritual world. Through rites, divine relationship, transformation, or exceptionally deep bonds formed during life, a soul may take on a genuinely celestial existence. This is particularly important for Champions, whose connection with a God may already be profound enough that death represents not the creation of a new allegiance but the continuation of one in a different form.
Not every soul dwelling safely within a spiritual realm becomes an Angel. Celestial existence is a particular transformation and responsibility, not the default reward for reaching a favorable afterlife. Likewise, the distinction between Angel and Archangel concerns the kind and magnitude of celestial existence they hold; it does not transform an Archangel into a God.
For this reason, an Archangel serving the Goddess of Chosen Paths belongs structurally beneath Archangels, not beneath the Goddess herself. Patronage describes whom the Archangel serves. Celestial Order describes what the Archangel is. That separation will allow the Archive to preserve both truths without sacrificing either one.
