Karevai

Inherited Form

The Karevai are the presently known Lineage of the Mantid Kindred. Their stable adult form is mantis-derived and creature-forward, combining living chitin with softer organic tissues. Known anatomy includes powerful, highly mobile legs, natural curved blade structures integrated into the forearms while useful grasping anatomy is retained, and a body exceptionally capable of balance, rapid repositioning, and precise movement.

Green coloration is documented in the known Edgewalker Exemplar, and true hair is likewise possible within the Lineage, but neither her coloration nor her dark braided hair is treated as universal Karevai biology. The full range of Karevai coloration and hair expression remains incompletely documented.

Wings and Other Variation

Functional wing development is not yet established as a universal baseline Karevai trait. The Ascended Iron Warden possesses two pairs of compact translucent mantis-like wings capable of brief hovering, rapid repositioning, and short-burst lift assistance. Current evidence is not sufficient to determine whether ordinary Karevai adults possess functional wings, reduced wings, wing covers, or variable wing development. The Archive therefore leaves baseline wing anatomy unresolved rather than projecting the final Ascension backward onto the entire Lineage.

No intrinsic magical ability is presently established for the Karevai. Their unusual balance, mobility, natural blades, and bodily precision arise from inherited anatomy; learned discipline and specialized training determine how those capacities are used.

Known Ascension Path

The best-documented Karevai Ascension path begins with Edgewalker and culminates in Iron Warden. Edgewalker is a complete adult Karevai whose natural mobility, balance, blade anatomy, and precision are refined through practice. Iron Warden is the final known Ascension of that same Lineage. Her living chitin becomes substantially denser, her forearm structures broaden for gripping and load-bearing, her overall strength and durability increase dramatically, and compact wings contribute to short-burst lift and repositioning.

Those developments belong to Ascension rather than ordinary Karevai maturation. Scarlet heavy carapace, extreme structural strength, and Iron Warden's specialized load-bearing anatomy should not be treated as baseline Lineage traits.

People, Not a Profession

Edgewalker's training in Ormedra and Iron Warden's protective role are examples of what particular Karevai individuals can do, not definitions of the people. Patience, martial service, infrastructure work, courage, and guardianship are not inherited racial traits. A Karevai may belong to any culture or profession compatible with an individual's circumstances and abilities.
