Mantid Kindred

Place in Beastfolk Taxonomy

The Mantid Kindred is a formal Beastfolk Kindred for compatible mantis-derived inherited architectures. The term does not function as a catch-all for insect-derived peoples. Moth-, beetle-, bee-, dragonfly-, or other arthropod-derived Beastfolk are not assumed to belong here merely because they share an insectlike appearance. Kindred placement depends on inherited and metaphysical architecture, including reproductive compatibility, rather than broad outward resemblance.

Only one stable Mantid Lineage is presently documented: the Karevai. Because no second Mantid Lineage is yet known, the full range of variation possible within the Kindred remains uncertain. Future mantis-derived populations would need to be compared against the established Mantid architecture before being classified here.

Known Architecture

The known Mantid body plan combines living chitin with softer organic tissues and preserves a substantially humanoid frame while retaining strongly mantis-derived structures. In the Karevai, this includes powerful mobile legs, natural curved forearm blades, exceptional balance, and the capacity for rapid, precise bodily repositioning. These traits describe the only documented Lineage and should not yet be treated as universal requirements for every future member of the Kindred.

No intrinsic magical affinity is presently established for the Mantid Kindred. Individual training, profession, Ascension, culture, and institutional service remain separate from ancestry.

Awakening and Classification

As with other Beastfolk, a Wildfolk individual whose inherited architecture genuinely matches the Mantid pattern may eventually be classified within an existing Mantid Lineage. Superficial resemblance alone is insufficient. The Archive does not create additional Mantid Lineages or Branches merely to fill theoretical possibilities.
