Small Running Title
Origin State
Wildfolk
Wildfolk are magical beasts that personally cross the threshold into reflective sapience and a Beastfolk form after accumulating extraordinary power.
Awakening in the Wild
A magical beast can accumulate power through age, survival, predation, magical environments, rare resources, Nexuses, and other forms of sustained exposure to Magic. Reaching the necessary threshold does not force sapience. Many creatures instead deepen the body and powers they already possess, becoming larger, stranger, or more formidable beasts.
A Wildfolk is the rarer creature that crosses sideways into reflective intelligence and a Beastfolk form. Awakening does not erase the strength required to reach that point. Newly awakened Wildfolk are often physically or magically exceptional compared with civilization-born Beastfolk of similar apparent development because the accumulated power of their earlier life remains theirs.
Origin, Not Ancestry
Wildfolk is not a taxonomic rank. An independently awakened owl might be Seruneth if the resulting architecture genuinely falls within the Seruneth Lineage, while another awakened owl could remain an unclassified Strigine Wildfolk. One awakening creates an individual; a Lineage requires stable inherited sapience and a form that reproduces reliably across generations.
Descendants can inherit the capacity for sapience and a stable body plan, but they do not inherit a founder's centuries of accumulated power, lived memory, or achieved self-understanding. This is why the first Wildfolk behind an old Lineage may have been a legendary creature while ordinary descendants are born as ordinary sapient children.
